Established in the late 1990s, James Johnson Vineyards is located in the St Helena AVA. James and Michelle Johnson sold their grapes for a couple of years before making the inaugural vintage of Bisou in 2000.
Bisou is French for “kiss.” This is an elegant, refined wine that is made with Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the 3 acre estate. It will not overpower food and pairs well with roasted and grilled meats. 485 cases were produced for the 2000 vintage.
The estate vineyard is broken into different blocks named after James’ and Michelle’s children: Ashley, Ryan, and Paige. James Johnson Vineyards is situated in one of the most sought after parts of the Napa Valley.
Just north of St Helena, the valley is at its narrowest point here. Days are warm and sunny, but evenings cool substantially as breezes move in and the vines are shaded by the valley walls.
