Hill Family Estate is located in the Atlas Peak AVA in eastern Napa Valley. The entire Hill Family is involved in the winery’s operations. Allison Green Doran is the winemaker and brings over three decades of experience to the job. Doran’s father, Russel Green, owned Simi Winery and employed Andre Tchelistcheff during the 1970s.
Doran worked under Tchelistcheff for several months and was educated by one of California greatest winemakers. She graduated with a degree in fermentation sciences from UC Davis, and in 1976, began working at Firestone Vineyards in Santa Ynez Valley. In 2000, Doran began working as a consultant for a handful of premium wineries, including Hill Family Estate.
Doug Hill has been managing vineyards in the Napa Valley for over 25 years. He currently oversees over 750 acres of vines. Hill Family Estate wines are made from fruit grown in Atlas Peak, Oak Knoll, and Carneros.
Their Pinot Noir is made with grapes grown in the eastern, Napa side of Carneros. It is aged in French oak and has substantial body for a Pinot. The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes used for the Hill Family’s wines are grown in Oak Knoll and Atlas Peak.
