Hewitt Vineyard is situated on a prized piece of land in the Rutherford AVA. The fact that Chalone Wine Group acquired the property in 2000 is a testament to its quality; Chalone buys only exceptional vines.
Tom Rinaldi is not only the winemaker at Hewitt, but he also fills the role of general manager. He worked for Duckhorn for many years before joining Hewitt to work with the exceptional estate grapes.
The 58 acre vineyard is located on the famous Rutherford Bench at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains. Like most of the surrounding properties, the deep, gravelly soil is very well drained and perfectly suited for Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 1992, the vines were replanted with different rootstocks and clones in response to the phylloxera threat. The first commercial vintage Hewitt produced with these grapes was the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon. It was released in 2004 and is a estate, 100% varietal wine.
