Sexto is a blend of 6 different varietals grown in the Terra Alta region of Spain. Terra Alta is in the Tarragona Province and encompasses about 22,230 acres of vineyards. This wine is made of 33% Grenache, 30% Carignane, 20% Tempranillo, 6% Lledoner Pelut, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Syrah.
In California, Laely Heron sources grapes from several AVAs including Napa Valley, Carneros, Sonoma Valley, Russian River Valley, Mendocino, Lake County, Clarksburg, Santa Maria Valley, and Santa Barbara County.
The 2003 Heron California Merlot was made with grapes from Russian River Valley, Lake County, and Clarksburg. This wine was aged in a combination of new and used French oak for 8 months before bottling. Like all of Ms. Heron’s wines, it is an excellent value.
