Harlan Estate is a 240 acre property in the hills of Oakville just above the famous Martha’s Vineyard. About 36 acres are planted with vineyards. Bill Harlan had a successful first career working for Pacific Union Real Estate. Co. He became interested in starting his own winery after traveling through Burgundy and Bordeaux in the 1980s.
Harlan Estate makes two different red blends with Bordeaux varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Winemaker Bill Levy only uses grapes from Mr. Harlan’s estate on the Oakville Bench.
These Napa Valley wines are among the most difficult to acquire. They cost a few hundred dollars when they are released and are often auctioned at much higher prices. The winery’s production is limited to less than 2,000 cases a year.
