Handley Cellars

Handley Cellars was founded in 1982 by Milla and Rex Handley. They currently produce about 14,000 cases a year and vinify a number of different grape varietals. Handley's Syrah and Late Harvest Riesling are particularly good.

Handley Cellars’ Brightlighter White is also an excellent wine. Apparently early residents of the Anderson Valley called their more urban counterparts, “Brightlighters.”
The winery owns a vineyard in the Anderson Valley, as well as one in the Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County. They grow Syrah, Viognier, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc in their Dry Creek Valley vineyard.
Their property in the Anderson Valley is planted with 13 acres of Chardonnay, 12 acres of Pinot Noir and 5 acres of Gewurztraminer. Handley’s acclaimed sparkling wines are made entirely with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from this vineyard. They are committed to the local environment and therefore use many organic methods.
Milla Handley is the head winemaker and is assisted by Kristen Barnhisel. Milla Handley majored in Fermentation Sciences at UC Davis. Before founding her winery, she worked for Edmeades Estate, Arrowood and Chateau St. Jean.
