In 1982, the Trione Family purchased Geyser Peak Winery before selling it to Jim Beam Brands Co. in 1998. The Triones still sell grapes to the new owner. Geser Peak is known for producing high quality wines at reasonable prices.
The Geyser Peak 2000 Reserve Alexandre Meritage is a critically acclaimed wine that is made with the tradition Bordeaux varietals. It has distinctive plum and earthy notes that will continue to develop with age. The terroir of the Alexander Valley AVA comes through very clearly in this wine.
At under $20, the Geyser Peak 2000 Sonoma County Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a tremendous value. Dark fruit, vanilla and oak dominate the bouquet and palate. This is another example of an age-worthy wine produced by the winery.
The Geyser Peak 2001 Kuimelis Cabernet Sauvignon is a single vineyard wine from the Alexander Valley AVA. It has soft tannins and cherry notes. The right amount of oak rounds out the flavor profile.
The Geyser Peak 2002 Ricci Chardonnay is a single vineyard wine from the Carneros AVA. I usually tend to prefer Chardonnays from cooler regions, but I liked this wine because of its noticeable acidity. It has substantial body from being aged on its lees.
