Field Stone Winery

In 1977, John and Katrina Staten established Field Stone Winery in Northern Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. But the property was first planted with vineyards much earlier in 1894.

Field Stone Winery produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and a Vintage Port-style wine with Petite Sirah.
The Field Stone 2001 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with a bit of Merlot. The grapes were harvested a moderate 24.4 Brix giving this wine 13.5% alcohol. It was aged in French oak for 20 months. 2,500 cases were produced.
The 2002 Alexander Valley Merlot was made with grapes from Field Stone’s “Tchelistcheff Block,” named after the late Andre Tchelistcheff. Like the Cab, this wine was also aged in French oak barrels for 20 months before bottling. Only 500 cases of this wine were produced.
The Staten Family Reserve Petite Sirah is a limited wine made with the original vines on the property (planted in 1894). Aged in both French and American oak, it has sweet black cherry and peppery flavors.

Field Stone Winery is one of my favorite stops in Alexander Valley. The property is gorgeous and I love the picnic benches and scenery. Their winery/tasting room is built into the side of a hill which naturally cools the building.
