Emilio’s Terrace Vineyard

In 1977, Phil Schlein moved to Oakville and bought the land that would eventually become Emilio’s Terrace Vineyard. He began planting his 48 acre piece of property in 1990.

Established in 1990, Emilio’s Terrace Vineyard is located in the Oakville AVA. 4.5 acres of vines are planted on a steep, sunny hillside just above the famous To Kalon Vineyard.
Because of its elevation, the vineyard is rarely affected by the morning fog that blankets much of the Napa Valley floor. This gives the grapes additional time to ripen in the sun.
Owner Phil Schlein’s released his first vintage in 1996. For the first three years, winemaker Joe Cafaro made wines with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1999, he began adding a little bit of Merlot to soften the edges.
The 2003 vintage was made using 100% organic farming methods and hand picked grapes. It was aged for 23 months in a combination of 95% French oak and 5% American oak. Only 657 cases were made of this wine.

As evidenced by their location and famous neighbors, Emilio's Terrace is a very serious producer of Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard has very low yields and the production methods are all top-notch.
