Elke Vineyards

Mark as Favorite

Elke Vineyards was founded by Mary Elke. She began growing grapes in Napa Valley, but another region soon caught their eye. Because the conditions of the Anderson Valley closely resembled Burgundy, Elke knew that Pinot Noir vines would thrive in there.

It was not long before Mary Elke sold her Napa land to the Mondavi Family and bought an 80 acre piece of property in the region. They experimented with several different varietals, but saving most of their vineyard for Pinot Noir.

Elke planted three different Pinot Noir clones, two French and one Anderson Valley field selection clone. This proved to be very important for Elke Vineyards; the three different clones impart a different flavor on their wine, adding flavor and complexity.

One of the French clones provides rich, berry flavors; the other imparts an earthy cedar and spice backbone. The Anderson Valley field clone adds texture, flavor and complexity.
