Elan Vineyards

Mark as Favorite

In 1979, Patrick Smith established Elan Vineyards in the eastern hills of Napa Valley. Smith grows premium Cabernet Sauvignon on his property. These are true mountain grapes that produce structured wines with dense flavors.

Region: Napa Valley
Sub Region: Atlas Peak
Wine: View all wines

Like anyone who has traveled to the top of Atlas Peak, Patrick Smith was taken aback by the breathtaking views when he first saw his property. Realizing this was the perfect place for his vineyards, he bought the land land and planted his vineyards.

Elan Vineyards is known for their award winning Cabernet Sauvignon. At 1,800 feet above sea level, it is one of the most elevated vineyards in Napa Valley. Rarely exposed to morning fog, the property enjoys long, sunny days and cool nights.

There is very often a 20 degree difference between daily highs and overnight lows. This allows the grape clusters to mature slowly and methodically. Additionally, the rocky, volcanic soil naturally limits vines’ yields. But the most important piece of the puzzle is owner and winemaker Patrick Smith.
