Ehrhardt Estates is located in the Sacramento Delta’s Clarksburg AVA. The winery specializes in Chenin Blanc and Petite Sirah, but also makes Chardonnay and a limited amount of late harvest Chenin Blanc.

In 1902, the Ehrhardt Family sold 640 acres to John N. Herzog. In 1960, Herzog’s grandsons, John and Paul Baranek, planted the first vineyards on the property. Ehrhardt Estates Winery was established in 2002. John and his son, Randy, currently run the family business.

The 2003 Ehrhardt Estates Petite Sirah has red fruit and vanilla flavors with well integrated tannins. This wine has received several awards including a Double Gold Medal at the Houston International Wine Competition, and a Silver Medal at the 2004 California State Fair Competition.

The winery’s 2004 Chenin Blanc has pear and melon flavors with nice acidity. Chenin Blanc does particularly well in the alluvial soils of the Clarksburg AVA. This wine was awarded a Gold Medal at the 2005 San Francisco International Wine Competition.

The 2005 Late Harvest Chenin Blanc has 8.5% alcohol and 12.8% residual sugar. The winery recommends serving this wine chilled and pairing it with fruit desserts, especially apples, pears, and pineapples.
