In 1998, Ron Donati and his son Matt bought about 1,000 acres of land that was once part of Almaden’s large vineyard in Paicines. A couple hundred acres are planted with vines. Prior to this purchase, the family had been involved in cattle ranching for years. Ron and Matt Donati bring a dedicated work ethic to their new venture.
Matt Donati inherited a love of wine from his father. He is currently the vineyard manager for his estate vineyards. Donati grows many different varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. He also grows Syrah, Chardonnay, and Pinot Grigio.
Donati Family Vineyards currently sells the majority of their grapes to other wineries. But they do make a number of their own wines. Winemaker Dan Kleck has close to 30 years of experience in the industry. He has worked for a number of Central Coast producers including Kendall Jackson’s Monterey operation.
Donati Winery currently makes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and two Bordeaux blends.
