Domaine Charbay is located in the Spring Mountain AVA. In addition to making wine, Miles and Marko Karakasevic distill brandy, rum, and vodka. The Karakasevic Family has been in the distilled beverage business since the 1750s.
Miles studied Enology and Viticulture at the University of Belgrade and became a Master Distiller at the family business. He moved to Canada in 1962, before making his way to California in 1970. Two years later, Miles and his wife Susan purchased a 17 acre property on Spring Mountain.
In 1983, he and Susan began making their own wines and brandy under the name Domaine Karakash. They have since changed the name to Domaine Charbay. In addition to spirits, they specialize in Port.
They make a Port with late harvest Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah, and a Ruby Port with Cab. The winery also produces a White Port with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, and a Cabernet Sauvignon table wine which is aged in French oak for 18 months.
