Marcelo Doffo, whose ancestry traces to Italy, grew up in Argentina where his grandfather farmed. Mr. Doffo eventually emigrated to the United States and, in the 1980s, travelled to Turin, Italy, where he met a relative who was still creating wine. Inspired, Mr. Doffo returned to California to try his hand at the craft. He now works side by side with his son Damian.
With fifteen acres of vineyards in Temecula Wine Country, Doffo Winery plants each vine by hand, taking care to thin the crops and maintaining a minimal irrigation standard. The Doffo family handcrafts varietals and blends like Viogner, Malbec, Mistura, Zinfandel and Tiarella. Doffo Wine’s 2008 Zinfandel received the 2011 Silver Medal in the Inland Empire Magazine wine awards issue. The winery strives to have all current selections available in the tasting room.
Doffo Winery also features a wine club. Members receive first chance at the newest releases. Memberships is free, but limited, and members must make a commitment to buy a certain number of bottles per year. Doffo holds events and special tastings for its wine club members. At these events, visitors may view the Doffo family’s museum of vintage motorcycles and taste its famous chimichurri sauce.
