When Dr. David Bruce founded his winery in the early 1960’s, there were only two other wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Now, those very same mountains are bursting at the seams with quality wineries.
The winemaking team combines Old World winemaking traditions with New World innovation. David Bruce pioneered some of these techniques himself. His background in science allowed him to make breakthroughs that are now widely used by California wineries.
Dr. Bruce was the first winemaker since Prohibition to produce a white wine made from Zinfandel grapes. He also made significant advances in the use of malolactic fermentation for white wine.
But he made his most important innovations with the Pinot Noir grape. David Bruce makes Pinot Noir with estate grapes and also sources fruit from 20 of California’s best vineyards. The winery also produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Zinfandel.
