David Arthur Vineyards

Before planting Chardonnay in 1980, David and Bob Long both already had extensive farming experience. Winemaking was a new task, and their first efforts were a little unbalanced, but they picked it up remarkably quickly.

David Arthur Vineyards is located in the eastern hills of the Rutherford AVA. The property has several famous neighbors including Chappellet Vineyards, Dalla Valle Vineyards, Bryant, Colgin, and Harrison.
The vineyards were established by David and Bob Long in 1980. They give a lot of credit for their success to their father, who had the foresight to begin purchasing Napa Valley land in the late 1950s. The climate, soil, and aspect of their land has also been integral to David Arthur’s reputation for premium quality wines.
David and Bob Long originally sold all of their Chardonnay grapes to other wineries. The Longs have always been farmers, first and foremost. But after a few years of fetching top prices for their fruit, David and Bob decided to try making their own wine.
They made their first vintage at a friend’s winery in St Helena. Since then, they have greatly refined their production techniques and are currently making highly sought after wines.
