Although Danza del Sol’s tasting room opened in February 2010, the estate’s history reaches back more than 30 years. Dr. William Filsinger and his wife Katharine originally owned and produced on its 25 acres. Follwing Dr. Filsinger’s retirement, Robert Olson took the reins to create Danza del Sol.
Located in Temecula wine country, Danza del Sol’s vineyards are planted with Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot, Merlot, Tempranillo and Cabernet Franc. The estate’s name changed when Mr. Olson purchased it; however, Danza del Sol has committed itself to continued production of the Filsinger wines. The Danza del Sol label is dedicated to producing a premium yet affordable lines of red and white wines. The winery also produces Methode Champenois champagne. Mr. Olson has retained well-known wine judge and lecturer Mike Tingley as winemaker. Mr. Tingley hopes to create unique and pioneering varietals and blends for Danza del Sol.
The winery participates in the De Portola Wine Trail, a group of nine boutique wineries, all residing on De Portola Road. It also is dog and horse friendly. Following the tasting room, guests are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch, purchase a bottle of wine and take advantage of the outdoor patio. Groups of 10 or more people should make an appointment.
