Coturri Winery is a family owned and managed producer in the Sonoma Mountain AVA. The Coturri Family owns and farms about 370 acres of vineyards. All of their grapes and wine are entirely organic; a rarity for an operation that size.

Enrico instilled a love for wine and culture in his son, the legendary Harry “Red” Coturri. It was Red who first began to make wine commercially. He established the family’s winery in 1979, enlisting the help of his two sons, Tony and Phil. Tony is currently the winemaker and Phil grows most of the grapes for Coturri Winery. Both men have risen to prominent positions in their respective fields.

Tony Coturri is a larger-than-life man who brings considerable passion and feeling to his winemaking. Phil is a rare grower who farms his 370 acres 100% organically. The effort and dedication required to farm this amount of vineyards entirely organically is considerable.

Grapes are fermented in open top containers and the cap is hand punched. The must is then basket pressed; a slow, but high quality process. Wines are subsequently given French oak treatment, and ultimately bottled and corked by hand.

Coturri is best known for producing bold, handcrafted Zinfandel. Fans of big Zins love these wines. About 5,000 cases are produced annually.

Has anyone had the Coturri Assemblage Millenaire? I just picked up a few bottles of the 1999 vintage.
