According to Merriam-Webster, consilience means the coming together of principles from different aspects in order to form a joined purpose. The Consilience Wines team seeks to represent that definition. The goal is to create a wonderful product and experience for the customer. Owners, Tom and Jodie Daughters and Brett Escalera along with others in Consilience’s team, were working in the health care industry when the idea of joining forces to start a winery came to fruition.
The Consilience team produced the first vintage in 1997. Since then, the team has worked hard and gained support from customers. The Consilience wines can be found throughout the country and in the tasting room in Los Olivos. Mr. Escalera serves as winemaker. He also is a trained paramedic. In the meantime, he studied enology and viticulture. Consilience sources its grapes from several vineyards throughout Santa Barbara County.
The dog-friendly tasting room is located in downtown Los Olivos. Consilience is aimed at retail sale and does not have winery tours but tries to create a relaxed atmosphere for the wine consumer. Some of the wines they currently have available are Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne, Pinot Gris, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and several blends. The white wine blend is Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Roussanne. The red wine blend is Grenache, Syrah and Petite Sirah. Many of its wines have received awards and accolades. Consilience also participates in many community events, such as release parties and food and wine events.
