In 1989, Melissa Moravec and Kurt Reaume founded Casa Carneros when they planted their seven acre, family owned vineyard.
Their property is located on the Napa side of Carneros. Production is extremely low and attention to detail is meticulous. Moravec is a graduate of the UC Davis Enology and Viticulture program. Prior to establishing Casa Carneros, she was the winemaker for Carneros Creek Winery. Her passion for Pinot Noir is evident in her bold yet elegant expressions of the varietal.
Since 1997, Moravec and Reaume have been producing a 100% estate grown Burgundian-style Pinot Noir. The Casa Carneros Pinot Noir is made from eight different clonal selections, all of which are grown on the estate. They select only the best fruit for this wine and sell the rest.
Each clone is vinified separately before blending. This adds distinctiveness to the final product results in a bold expression of the Pinot Noir varietal. The wine is barrel aged for 23 months and stored in bottles for two years prior to release.
Moravec and Reaume also make a Pinot Noir and Merlot sourced from Las Lomas Vineyard. This property is also located in Carneros. Both wines are made in the same hand-crafted fashion their estate Pinot.
