Carol Shelton Wines
It is difficult to summarize the impact Carol Shelton has had on the Zinfandel grape in California. Everything she touches seems to turn to gold. In addition to producing her own wines, Shelton also owns a wine consulting company called Vincare Consulting.

Carol Shelton is an acclaimed winemaker and has the distinction of being the most awarded winemaker in America. She graduated from the UC Davis Enology and Viticulture Department in 1978.
During her early career, she worked at Robert Mondavi Winery, Saltrams Wines in Australia and Buena Vista Winery. In 2000, Carol Shelton and her husband Mitch Mackenzie founded the Shelton-Mackenzie Wine Company. This new project is dedicated to making small quantities of outstanding wines from distinctive vineyards. Along with producing her own wines, Shelton also owns Vincare Consulting. Her clients include several premium wineries.
Shelton is particularly proud of her Rocky Reserve Zinfandel which is sourced from Rockpile Ridge Vineyard. These vines are planted at about 1,200 feet above sea level and are owned by Jack Florence and his son. Mr. Florence exerted considerable effort to gain AVA status for Rockpile.
For a Zinfandel, this wine has remarkable finesse. Although she usually prefers American oak for Zin, Shelton primarily used French oak for this wine. In Shelton’s words, “This is our best aging wine and our most consistent vineyard performer of the three, delivering multiple Gold medals every year.”
