Bridlewood Winery is located in near the town of Los Olivos in the Santa Ynez Valley AVA. Winemaker Daniel Hopkins specializes in Syrah and also makes Merlot, Riesling, Chardonnay, Viognier, and a red blend of Rhone varietals. The estate property is mainly planted with Syrah on a south-facing, hillside vineyard with limestone soils.
Hopkins uses grapes from Bridlewood’s estate vineyard but also buys fruit from properties throughout the Central Coast. He is more concerned with overall balance than he is with putting an AVA label on his wine.
Bridlewood makes 4 different labels of wine including the Winner’s Circle, Estate, Reserve, and Central Coast. The Winner’s Circle is made in very low quantities and includes several Syrahs, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Roussanne, Port, and Rose.
Bridlewood produces 2 Estate wines: the Syrah and Zinfandel. The 2003 Bridlewood Estate Syrah was aged in small oak barrels for 19 months before bottling. It is a balanced wine that has restrained fruit and a mouth filling texture. 780 cases of this wine were made.
