Brander Vineyard produces about 8,000 cases of wine a year in the Santa Ynez Valley AVA. Currently best known for their Sauvignon Blanc, they are quickly gaining a reputation for their innovative blends.
All of Brander’s wines use fruit from their 40 acre Estate Vineyard. The property is blessed with an advantageous climate including warm, sunny days and cool nights. Most of the soil in the vineyard consists of fine sandy loam over clay. Yields are between 3 and 4 tons per acre.
In addition to Sauvignon Blanc, Brander produces Cuvee Natalie, which is an aromatic blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. This wine has been positively received by the public, as has their Cuvee Nicolas.
Nicolas is a blend similar to the Cuvee Natalie, with Semillon instead of Sauvignon Blanc as the primary varietal. The Nicolas was aged on its lees in 50% new French oak barrels and is fuller-bodied and less acidic than the Natalie. Only 100 cases were made of this remarkable wine.
