Benessere Vineyards has recently turned heads in the wine industry with their Sangiovese. This is a difficult grape in California, but John and Ellen Benish produce one of the better examples in the state. Benessere means “well being” in Italian.

Benessere Vineyards is located in the cultural heart and soul of the Napa Valley. In 1994, John and Ellen Benish began their winemaking journey on a 42 acre piece of property in the famous St Helena AVA.

The estate vineyard is planted mainly with Sangiovese, but there is also some Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc. In 1995, Chris Deardon came on board as winemaker.

The 2003 Benessere Phenomenon is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, and Syrah. It was aged in French oak for 18 months before bottling. 850 cases of this “Super Napan” wine were produced.

The winery also makes the 2003 Sorridente, (Cabernet Sauvignon, Aglianico, and Merlot), 2004 BK Collins Old Vines Zinfandel, 2004 Black Glass Zinfandel, 2004 Estate Sangiovese, 2004 Estate Syrah, and 2005 Pinot Grigio.
