Located in the Edna Valley AVA, Baileyana Winery was established by Catharine and Jack Niven over 20 years ago. The couple moved to San Luis Obispo County in the early 1970s.
Early on, the Nivens experimented with Burgundian techniques and influenced many other winemakers. They used different trellis systems depending on the varietal and aged wines sur lie in French oak.
Catharine and Jack’s sons, John and Jim, currently run Baileyana Winery along with grandsons Michael and John. In 1998, Michael and John hired esteemed French winemaker Christian Roguenant. Roguenant is originally from Burgundy and has made wine all over the world.
Baileyana recently planted Firepeak Vineyard in which they have continued the winery’s reputation for innovation. Vertical trellises are used for the several different clones that are planted throughout the vineyard.
The Firepeak Vineyard Pinot Noir is a masterpiece created by winemaker Christian Roguenant. It is very concentrated and has very dark pigments for a Pinot. The nose is dominated by spice and ripe cherries.
