Archipel Wines is a small, premium-quality label based in the Alexander Valley AVA. Although Archipel uses grapes from Sonoma County and Napa Valley for their wines, they refer to the Mayacamas Mountains as their home.

The talented Oliver Rousset is the winemaker for Archipel. Mr. Rousset produces a single red Bordeaux blend. Each year, the percentage of grapes in the cuvee changes based on the growing season and the desired flavor profile.

In 2002, it was a blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Malbec. 94% of these grapes were grown in Sonoma County and 6% were grown in Napa Valley. This wine was aged in a combination of French and American oak for 14 months and has 14.2% alcohol.

The 2001 Archipel was a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc. Like the 2002, it was also aged in French in American oak, but has slightly less alcohol at 14.1%. 2000 was the label’s inaugural vintage.
