Anakota produces single vineyard wines sourced from grapes grown on the rustic hills west of Mount St. Helena. The Helena Montana Vineyard is planted entirely with Cabernet Sauvignon.
It is situated 850 feet above sea level on sunny, hillside slopes. The soils are very hard and inhibit the vines’ growth and grape output. The vineyard encompasses a little over 60 acres. Anakota made 535 of their 2001 Helena Montana Cab. It was for 14 months in French oak.
Anakota also sources Cabernet Sauvignon from the 12 acre Helena Dakota Vineyard. It is planted at 750 feet above sea level in soils dominated by volcanic ash. Fruit from this vineyard has distinctive mineral notes from this soil. 500 cases of the 2001 vintage were made.

In my opinion, Anakota makes some of the best Cab in California. Haven't had a chance to try their 2003 Cabs but am looking forward to it.
