Amador Foothill Winery makes Zinfandel, Syrah, Sangiovese, Fume Blanc and Semillon. Owners Katie Quinn and Ben Zeitman have been producing wine since 1980. Quinn is the winemaker and Zeitman manages the vineyards. They currently makes about 8,000 cases a year.
Amador Foothills’s Sangiovese and Zinfandel have earned Zeitman and Quinn considerable acclaim. They were among the first producers in California to make Sangiovese.
I particularly like Amador Foothill’s Esola Zinfandel. It has a velvety texture on the palate with spicy notes. It stands well on its own but can also be paired with heartier foods. Their Sangiovese Grand Reserve is also excellent. Keep your eye on this varietal in the Sierra Foothills.
