Akin Estates
Akin Estates is a newly established Zinfandel producer located in the Lodi wine region. The winery’s first release was the 2002 Zinfandel from Maley Vineyard. Co-owner and winemaker David Akin was an early advocate of premium Lodi wine production.

Akin Estates is located in the Lodi AVA. The winery recently released their first wine: the 2002 Zinfandel from Maley Vineyard in Lodi. The Maley Family has been farming grapes in the region for many years. The grapes used for this wine were from 50 year old vines.
David Akin is the winemaker and co-owner of the winery. He has been employed in the Lodi wine industry since 1978, when he went to work for Barengo Vineyards as their winemaker and manager.
After his time with Barengo, Akin worked as a winemaking consultant for several years, traveling all over the state. In 2002, along with wife Brenda, David founded Akin Estates and began his own venture. He blends traditional techniques with more innovative ones to make his wine.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this winery goes too, especially because David Akin is such a seasoned winemaker. I wasn't able to try the Maley Vineyard Zinfandel, but I'm sure they'll have more wines coming out in the next couple years.
