Pinot Blanc Grape

The Pinot Blanc grape is a mutation of Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio. All Pinots are ultimately descended from Pinot Noir.
Though there are some great wines made with the grape, it is generally relegated to at least a secondary position in almost every wine producing region of the world.
Pinot Blanc has very high tannin levels in their skins compared to most white varietals. Some examples are quite full bodied, but most producers eschew extended skin contact. Non-oaked versions have a characteristically subtle aroma.
The grape has a bit of minerality and spice, though its flavor profile is quite mild. Because its flavor profile is not overwhelming, Pinot Blanc is very food friendly. Try them with fish or poultry.
