Rockpile Wineries (Back to overview)
Although there are no bonded wineries in the Rockpile AVA, there are several notable vineyards. The following wineries source Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Sirah from the region.
Rosenblum Cellars
Rosenblum Cellars sources grapes from all over the state and has tasting rooms in Alameda and Healdsburg. The winery makes many different wines, but my favorite is their Rockpile Zinfandel. Their Rockpile Zinfandel is particularly good.
Carol Shelton Wines
It is difficult to summarize the impact Carol Shelton has had on the Zinfandel grape in California. Everything she touches seems to turn to gold. In addition to producing her own wines, Shelton also owns a wine consulting company called Vincare Consulting.
Branham Estate
Branham Estate is owned by UC Davis educated Gary Branham. In 1989, he had the foresight to buy 240 acres in Rockpile. Branham currently grows Zinfandel and Petite Sirah on his land. He also makes wine with grapes from Napa Valley and Russian River Valley.
JC Cellars
JC Cellars is owned by Rosenblum veteran Jeff Cohn and his wife Alexandra. Mr. Cohn makes an excellent Syrah using fruit from the Rockpile wine region.
