Sonoma-Carneros Wineries (Back to overview)

Carneros wineries are located about 45 minutes north of San Francisco. There are many excellent producers that are best known for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and sparkling wine.

Larson Family Winery

The Larson Family has owned their property since the late 19th century. But it was not until 1977 that Bob Larson planted his first 40 acres of Chardonnay. He currently owns 70 acres or vines.

Schug Estate

Before establishing Schug Estate, Walter Schug was the winemaker for Joseph Phelps Vineyards. He played a major role in developing Insignia, a benchmark Napa Valley wine.

Buena Vista Winery

In 1857, Count Agoston Haraszthy founded Buena Vista Winery in the Sonoma Valley. Known as the, "Father of California's wine industry,” Haraszthy was the first to widely import Vitis vinifera varietals to the state.

Robert Stemmler Winery

Located on the Sonoma side of the Carneros AVA, Robert Stemmler Winery is best known for Pinot Noir from Carneros and Russian River Valley. The winery also makes Chardonnay from Carneros.

Viansa Winery

Viansa Winery is located at the southern end of Carneros, the gateway to Sonoma’s wine country. It is the first winery you see when entering wine country from San Francisco.
