Alexander Valley Wineries (Back to overview)

Several noteable Alexander Valley wineries have emerged as serious contenders to Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The region contains approximately 7,000 acres of vineyards.
Seghesio Family Vineyards
Seghesio Family Vineyards is currently run by the 3rd and 4th generation of a lineage of winemakers. They specialize in Zinfandel, Sangiovese, and Pinot Noir, but make a range of interesting wines.
Medlock Ames
Medlock Ames is a partnership between Ames Morison and Christopher Medlock James. Morison and James were college roommates at Tulane University. In 1996, they established their winery in the southwestern part of the Alexander Valley AVA.
Coral Mustang Wines
Coral Mustang Wines is an Alexander Valley based label that specializes in single vineyard Tempranillo grown in the Paso Robles AVA. Originally from the Rioja region of Spain, this grape is increasingly popular in California.
Alexander Valley Vineyards
Alexander Valley Vineyards is located on the eastern bench of the Russian River. Owned by the Wetzel family, they farm the same land that Cyrus Alexander did over a century ago.
Field Stone Winery
In 1977, John and Katrina Staten established Field Stone Winery in Northern Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. But the property was first planted with vineyards much earlier in 1894.
Geyser Peak Winery
Geyser Peak Winery has a long history of producing wine that began in 1880. Founder Augustus Quitzow realized the potential of the Alexander Valley for growing quality grapes. Geyser Peak currently makes several wines including an exceptional Meritage blend.
Jordan Winery
In 1972, Tom Jordan purchased 1,575 acres that would become the Jordan Winery Estate. He originally planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but added some Chardonnay 5 years later.
Roth Winery
Owned by Lancaster Estate, Roth Winery produces Cabernet Sauvignon from Lancaster’s estate vineyards in the southwestern part of the Alexander Valley AVA. Both labels are made at the same production facilities.
Stryker Sonoma
Stryker Sonoma is situated on a beautiful hillside in Northern Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. Stryker specializes in Bordeaux varietals, but also makes excellent Zinfandel and Chardonnay.
Lancaster Estate
Lancaster Estate is located on a 57 acre property in the southern part of the AVA. Ted Simpkins is the founder and proprietor. He grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot, and makes three different blends.
Hanna Winery
In 1985, Dr. Elias Hanna bought his first 12 acres in the Russian River AVA. He established Hanna Winery the same year. Jefferson Hinchliffe is the current winemaker.
Mosaic Vineyards
Mosaic Vineyards is located on Highway 128 southeast of the town of Geyserville in Northern Sonoma County. The winery produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and a Red Meritage.
Murphy Goode Winery
In 1985, Murphy Goode Winery was established by Tim Murphy, Dale Goode, and Dave Ready. They originally produced Chardonnay and Fume Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc) with estate grown grapes.
Simi Winery
Simi Winery is a large Alexander Valley producer that is known for high quality wines that offer very good value. Established over 125 years ago, Simi also has a very long history in Northern Sonoma County.
Clos du Bois
Clos du Bois is located in the town of Geyserville in the Alexander Valley AVA. They produce a wide range of both red and white wines including the Proprietary Series, Appellation Reserve Series, and Classics.
Stonestreet Winery
In 1989, Jess Jackson established Stonestreet Winery in the southern part of the Alexander Valley AVA. In 1995, Jackson purchased Alexander Mountain Estate and merged the two properties. Stonestreet now specializes in mountain wines.
Chateau Souverain
Chateau Souverain is located about 10 miles northeast of Alexander Valley Vineyards. Vineyards are grown on the western bench of the Russian River. Several experts have argued that Cabs grown in the more gravelly, western soils have stronger tannins than their eastern counterparts.
Coyote Crest Vineyards & Winery
Coyote Crest Vineyards & Winery is located in Northern Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley AVA. The winery vinifies individual vineyard lots in small, open top containers before blending.
Atelier Winery
Atelier Winery produces excellent Zinfandel in the Alexander Valley AVA. The winery was established by Ondine Chattan and David Reed in 2002. Ondine is the winemaker and Reed is the general manager.
Hafner Vineyard
Hafner Vineyard makes estate grown wines in the Alexander Valley AVA. The Hafner Family ages their wines for an exceptionally long time and do not release their Cabernet Sauvignon until 5 years after bottling.
Palmeri
Palmeri was established by Kerry and Daisy Damskey and Denise Prentice. They source grapes from some very prestigious properties including Stagecoach Vineyard in Napa Valley and Van Ness Vineyard in Alexander Valley.
Stuhlmuller Vineyards
Stuhlmuller Vineyards is situated on the prized benchlands of Southwestern Alexander Valley near the borders of Chalk Hill and Russian River Valley. The winery focuses on producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Chardonnay.
Sausal Winery
Sausal Winery is located on Highway 128 just north of the town of Healdsburg. The winery produces 3 excellent Zinfandels, Cabernet Sauvignon, and several other varietals. Sausal is owned by third generation Italian Americans.
Pellegrini Family Vineyards
Pellegrini Family Vineyards consists of properties in Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley. The winery produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Carignane, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Rosato.
Rezonja Wine Cellars
Rezonja Wine Cellars is located on Pine Mountain in the northern part of the Alexander Valley AVA. Winemaker and owner Steve Rezonja is a Cabernet Sauvignon specialist. He buys grapes from nearby Sky Pine Vineyards.
Archipel Wines
Archipel Wines is a small, premium-quality label based in the Alexander Valley AVA. Although Archipel uses grapes from Sonoma County and Napa Valley for their wines, they refer to the Mayacamas Mountains as their home.
Canyon Road Winery
Canyon Road Winery is located in the town of Geyserville in the Alexander Valley AVA. The winery produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc.
Gann Family Cellars
Gann Family Cellars produces Sauvignon Blanc from Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley in Sonoma County. The family’s 110 acre estate overlaps both of these wine regions.
Hawkes Wine
Hawkes Wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon label made with grapes grown in Alexander Valley. Stephen and Paula Hawkes also grow Merlot and Chardonnay. Herman Froeb is the winemaker.
Legacy Winery
Legacy is a premium quality producer that focuses on a single red wine made from grapes grown in Alexander Valley. This wine has won acclaim from many famous critics, including Robert Parker.
Mojons Bench
Mojons Bench is a small family winery that focuses on producing Merlot from estate grapes. The property is located in Northern Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley AVA.
Pendleton Estate
In 2005, Michall and Jeannine Pendleton established Pendleton Estate in the northwestern part of the Alexander Valley wine region. The vines are planted on hillside slopes at about 2,000 feet above sea level.
Wattle Creek Winery
In 1994, Christopher and Kristine Williams established Wattle Creek Winery and 56 acres of vineyard in the Alexander Valley wine region. The Williams are both originally from Australia, and wanted to find a place to grow grapes that was similar to Barossa Valley.
Quaking Hills Winery
Joanne and Keith Collard are the owners of Quaking Hills Winery and the 36 acre Hidden Spring Vineyard. The Collards grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Viognier.
White Oak Vineyards & Winery
Established in 1981, White Oak Vineyards & Winery produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Todd Crowell uses grapes from Alexander Valley, Napa Valley, and Russian River Valley.
Vérité Winery
Vérité Winery is situated in southeastern hills of the Alexander Valley AVA. Winemaker Peter Seillan sources Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from several outstanding mountain growers, and also has access to estate grapes from 3 properties.
Trentadue Winery
Trentadue Winery is located in the town of Geyserville in Northern Sonoma County. The Trentadue Family has been farming in Alexander Valley since 1959. They currently own 250 acres of vineyards.
