Fair Play Wineries (Back to overview)

Fair Play wineries cultivate their vineyards on sunny slopes in the Sierra Foothills. The majority of the region's small wineries are located on Fair Play Road. Because they are situated close together, visiting these wine producers makes a very nice day trip.
Oakstone Winery
Oakstone Winery is owned and operated by John and Susan Smith. The Smiths make a number of wines with grapes grown throughout the state. Their estate vineyard is planted with mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. They also make an excellent Zinfandel with grapes sourced from the Paso Robles AVA.
Fitzpatrick Winery
In 1980, Fitzpatrick Winery was established in the Fair Play region of the Sierra Foothills. The winery has been certified organic by the CCOF, or California Certified Organic Farmers.
Latcham Vineyards
In 1981, Latcham Vineyards was established in the Fair Play wine region. Until 1990, Joe and Margaret Latcham sold the majority of their grapes to Granite Springs Winery.
Granite Springs Winery
Granite Springs Winery was founded by Lester and Lynne Russell. For several years, they bought the majority of their grapes from Jon and Margaret Latcham. In 1994, the Russells sold their winery to the Latcham Family.
Perry Creek Vineyards
Perry Creek Vineyards is famous for producing ZinMan. This wine has won numerous awards, including a gold medal at the California State Fair in 2003. It embodies all that is great about Fair Play Zinfandel.
Windwalker Vineyard
In 1984, Arnie and Paige Gilpin established Windwalker Vineyard. The Gilpins make wine from their estate vines and also source grapes from other growers. I particularly like their Barbera.
