El Dorado Wineries (Back to overview)

El Dorado wineries are an integral part of the emerging wine industry in the Sierra Foothills. Many of these producers are best known for Zinfandel, but are also branching out into other varietals.
Lava Cap Winery
Lava Cap Winery is located in the El Dorado AVA of the Sierra Foothills. Tom Jones is the winemaker and Charlie Jones is the vineyard manager.
Boeger Winery
Boeger Winery was one of the trailblazers of the Sierra Foothills reemergence as a wine region. Greg Boeger had considerable foresight to begin making El Dorado wine over 30 years ago.
Sierra Vista Vineyards
In 1972, Sierra Vista Vineyards was founded by John and Barbara MacCready. They initially planted Cabernet Sauvignon at a time when the majority of vineyards in the region were Zinfandel.
Coulson Winery
Coulson Winery has received recognition for its quality and consistency. Their Reserve Chardonnay is particularly distinguished. Coulson also produces a delicate Sauvignon Blanc and a smooth, complex Pinot Gris.
Chateau Rodin
Chateau Rodin was established in 1981 by Raymond and Barbara McKay. This beautiful property has striking views of the surrounding El Dorado AVA. The winery's Barbera and Reserve Zinfandel are particularly good.
Madrona Vineyards
Madrona Vineyards sits at over 3,000 feet above sea level, and is the most elevated vineyard property in California. Madrona produces handcrafted wines that are a very good value. They specialize in Syrah and Riesling.
Gold Hill Vineyard
In 1980, Hank Battjes established Gold Hill Vineyard in the Sierra Foothills’ El Dorado AVA. Located near the town of Coloma, the winery makes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, and sparkling wine.
Sogno Winery
