Mount Veeder Wineries (Back to overview)
Several Mount Veeder wineries are among the best known in Napa Valley. Mount Veeder Winery and Hess Collection specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon while Jade Mountain is a New World master at producing Syrah.
Jade Mountain
Jade Mountain makes one of the best Syrahs in Napa Valley. Talent abounds in both the vineyard and winery of this impressive producer. The climate and soil of their Paras Vineyard is optimal for producing Rhone varietals.
Mount Veeder Winery
Located high above the valley floor, Mount Veeder Winery produces rustic, full bodied wines. In 1965, Michael and Arlene Bernstein planted their first vineyards. They were the first vintners in Napa to plant all of the Bordeaux varieties.
Chateau Potelle
Chateau Potelle founders Marketta and Jean-Noel Fourmeaux first came to America in 1980 as official wine tasters for the French Government. They spent the majority if their time in California, specifically in Napa Valley.
Hess Collection Winery
In 1986, Donald Hess began leasing the Christian Brothers’ production facilities on Mount Veeder. He completed a major renovation of the winery in 1989, and Hess Collection was born.
Mayacamas Vineyards
Mayacamas Vineyards was named after the mountain range that separates Sonoma and Napa Counties. The property was home to Wappo Native Americans for many centuries. Their presence on the land is still felt today as spears and arrows are frequently found on the property.
Calafia Cellars
Calafia Cellars was established by Randle G. Johnson and MaryLee Johnson. The winery makes a single red wine that is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.
Rubissow-Sargent Winery
Rubissow-Sargent Winery is located in the City of Berkeley, but the winery’s 45 acre estate (planted with 18.6 acres of vines) is perched high on Mount Veeder in the southwestern hills of Napa Valley.
Renteria Wines
Renteria Wines is a premium wine label that is owned and operated by famed vineyard manager, Oscar Renteria, and his family. They are currently constructing production facilities on Mount Veeder, and expect 2007 to be their first crush.
