Santa Lucia Highlands Wineries (Back to overview)
Things are looking up for several California Central Coast wineries located in the Santa Lucia Highlands. The following are my favorite producers from the, "Burgundy of the New World.”
Hahn Estates
Hahn Estates produces wines that embody the characteristics of the Santa Lucia Highlands. The cool, unforgiving climate of the AVA imparts a unique flavor to their wines.
Paraiso Vineyards
Paraiso Vineyards is best known for their monumental Pinot Noir. Deeply concentrated, this wine is the product of both vision and old fashioned hard work. Paraiso Vineyards was founded by Rich and Claudia Smith.
Pisoni Vineyard
Pisoni Vineyard is best described as a Pinot Noir laboratory. Their search for excellence is embodied in the single wine they produce. Owner Gary Pisoni has received countless accolades over the years.
A.P. Vin
A.P. Vin specializes in single vineyard Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands, Santa Rita Hills, Santa Maria Valley, and Russian River Valley. Owner Andrew P. Vingiello was mentored by Pinot master Brian Loring of Loring Wine Company.
Lucia Vineyards
Lucia Vineyards produces extremely sought after Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah from Monterey County’s Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. These wines are made with grapes from Pisoni Vineyard and Garys’ Vineyard.
Smith & Hook
Located in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, Smith & Hook is owned by the Hahn Family. The winery produces a single wine: their Cabernet Sauvignon “Grand Reserve.”
Morgan Winery
In 1982, Dan and Donna Lee established Morgan Winery in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. Winemaker Gianni Abate produces Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Blanc.
Manzoni Estate Vineyard
Manzoni Estate Vineyard is located in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. The Manzoni Family makes a small amount of premium quality Pinot Noir and also sells grapes to other wineries.
Marilyn Remark Winery
Specializing in Rhone varietals, Marilyn Remark Winery is located in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. This wine region has recently been turning heads with cool-weather Syrah in addition to Burgundian varietals.
Coyote Canyon Vineyards and Winery
Coyote Canyon Vineyards and Winery specializes in wines from the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. Coyote Canyon also makes wines from the Santa Cruz Mountains and Arroyo Seco AVAs.
