Chalone Wineries (Back to overview)

Although it contains only a handful of vineyards, the Chalone AVA has been instrumental in bringing attention to wine production in Monterey County. When touring the region, one is struck by the amount of effort it must take to sustain vineyards in these dry hills.
Chalone Vineyard
The fascinating story behind Chalone Vineyard deserves to be told. The property is perched on the northern slope of Chalone Peak in the Gavilan Mountain Range. The key to Chalone’s success lays in their vineyard management practices.
Michaud Vineyard
Michaud Vineyard also has a reputation for producing some of the best Chardonnay in Monterey County. Michael Michaud owns about 28 acres in the Chalone AVA. He is quickly making a name for himself as a talented, artisanal wine producer.

Well put jdelc47. Of course they are famous for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but I also think their Chenin Blanc is one of the best in California. I've unfortunately never been to one, but I hear their annual shareholder parties on the property are legendary.

I've tasted Chalone's wines for several years now and have found the entire line-up to be quintessentially Californian, terrific in terms of QPR, and solid in quality. You'll never be disappointed with any of their wines. Also an awesome location if you like to hike, bike or camp is Pinnacles Monument.
