Redwood Valley Wine Country
Redwood Valley wineries excel at producing a wide array of different wines. Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are the most widely planted grapes in Redwood Valley Wine Country. Additionally, several Rhone and Italian varietals have found a home in the local vineyards and in Redwood Valley Wineries.
The climate of Redwood Valley Wine Country is cool and elevated. Because ocean breezes moderate summertime temperatures, the growing season is noticeably longer than other inland AVAs. Grapes are able to ripen slowly, resulting in wines that have an exceptional balance of tannins, acidity, alcohol and fruit flavors.
Redwood Valley’s terrain is defined by its elevation and distinctive soils. They are conspicuously red in color, and are made of alluvial loam and gravel. Cabernet Sauvignon is well suited to Redwood Valley Wine Country. It is no surprise that Redwood Valley Wineries specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon production.
Despite the region’s isolation, Redwood Valley’s history winery and vineyard development is quite noteworthy. Historical accounts indicate that grapes from Redwood Valley Wineries were particularly valued during the early years the region’s development.
