The Lodi AVA has a long history of producing many different Central Valley Wines, but is most noted for Zinfandel. Zinfandel thrives in the region because it enjoys abundant sunshine and cool breezes from the Bay. A wine from this region just broke into the ultra-premium category, representing a change in the public’s view of Central Valley Wineries.
On a levied island in the Central Valley’s Sacramento Delta, Clarksburg is known for its Chenin Blanc production. Cool air from the Bay and clay soils seem to be the key to success with this grape that originated in the Loire Valley of France. Petite Sirah also does very well in Central Valley Wine Country.
