4bottles...thx for the reply. I try to buy a few xtra bottles too of wines I like. That way I can taste them as they age and take some notes. Wines all age differently so its nice to try it along the way....cheers!!!!

lodizin and cawines, thanks for the info. i agree that i should wait to drink my wine, but sometimes i just cannot wait. lodizin, next time i invest in wine, i'm going to buy a few bottles of the same wine and try it every year and try to pick up on the difference, thanks for the advice.

I agree that aging is a very subjective process, especially with California Cabs. Top reds from Bordeaux really demand aging because they are considered "tight" and are not forthcoming with fruit flavors in their youth. But this isn't really the case with New World, fruit-forward Cabs. Silver Oak's website says this wine will peak in 2027, but this may be a stretch. But I'm sure it will benefit from several years of being properly cellared.

4bottles, It's tough to say since its so subjective and everyone's different. I would say Silver Oak is best when aged another 3-5 minimum. They bottle age quite a bit before release and it really helps with the tannin and finesse of the wine. I've had a bottle of 1999 Silver Oak and cellared another for 3 more years and you could really tell the difference in the finish and balance of the wine. I would recommend to take notes and if you have enough try a bottle every 1yr or so if you can wait!! It's really suprising how much the wine will improve with some aging!!

lodizin, i am in a continuous struggle not to drink my wine. i want to drink it at its peak, but sometimes feel that its not going to get that much better so i might as well drink it now. when is the optimal time to drink wine and is it really going to get that much better?

Very powerful wine with some finesse. Good depth and balance with a big fruit core.I would like to see what this would develop into in another 5 yrs or so.
